Objective Through comparing the differences of mMRC and CAT scores of patients with stable COPD
and different constitutional types,to understand the relationship between TCM constitutional classification and the patient’
s life quality and establish a COPD tertiary prevention constitution model based on TCM constitution, further to provide
the basis for strengthening tertiary prevention for COPD patients and managing susceptible population. Method Research
method of observation was adopted and constitutional classification of 169 patients with stable COPD were observed, the
composition of constitutional classification of the cases were obtained, the differences of mMRC and CAT scores of COPD
patients with different constitutional types were compared, the relevance of TCM constitutional classification and COPD
patient’s life quality were understood. Result The composition of TCM constitutional classification of patients with stable
COPD ranked from high to low based on the proportion were: qi deficient constitution ( 49 cases,29.0%) ,yin deficient
constitution ( 37 cases,21.9%) ,phlegm-dampness constitution ( 26 cases,15.4%) ,dampness-heat constitution ( 21
cases,12.4%) ,other types of constitution accounted for 21.3%. The relationship between mMRC scores and constitutional
types of patients with stable COPD with different constitutional types was: qi deficient constitution>dampness-heat constitution>
yin deficient constitution>phlegm-dampness constitution. Among the four common constitutional types of COPD
patients,CAT score was the highest in patients of qi deficient constitution, followed by dampness - heat constitution,
phlegm-dampness constitution, yin deficient constitution got the lowest score, the differences between the groups were
significant( P<0.05) .Conclusion Patients with asthenia in superficiality such as dampness-heat or phlegm-dampness
constitutions have more severe dyspnea and worse life quality, indicating that such people in particular, need to strengthen
the daily disease management. COPD is a chronic disease with intermingled deficiency and excess as well as asthenia in
origin and asthenia in superficiality. While replenishing and restoring qi of lung, spleen and kidney, treatment on dampness
pathogen should be paid attention to,such as therapies of clearing heat and eliminating dampness,of eliminating
dampness and phlegm,of improving patient’s clinical symptoms and life quality. Thus,Strengthening body resistance
without fueling pathogen, tonifying the body without detaining pathogen should be one of the important principles of the
management of patients with stable COPD.
