In order to explore the evolution of the development of classical Chinese medicine theory, this paper takes
the spleen and its syndrome and therapy as the starting point, collects and studies five milestone classics in China’s medical
history: Medical Secrets of an Official,Peaceful Holy Benevolent Preions,General Records of Holy Universal Relief,
Preions for Universal Relief,Golden Mirror of Medicine, with a view to clarify the academic development of the spleen physiological
pathology, its syndrome and the treatment based on syndrome differentiation since 1742. The study finds that although
the theory of spleen syndrome differentiation and treatment has developed, its basic theory is slow in the development.
The distinct manifestation is the frequent reference to discussions on spleen physiology and pathology from The Inner
Canon of Huangdi and General Treatise on Causes and Manifestations of All Diseases by the 5 books. Cases of development
of clinical discipline promoted by basic theory exploration are rare. The study also shows that Zangxiang and its pathogenesis
theory plays an important role in the basic theory of Chinese medicine.
